Weekly Roundup (Sept 8-13)

Hey Anchorage 👋

This week’s Roundup is coming to you from somewhere in the middle of Canada as I make the drive to the Lower 48. If you’ve never done the drive, I’d recommend it at least once.

This trip also closes out a busy summer season for me personally, and I’m excited to settle back into a rhythm and invest more in building The Anchorage Local this fall.

In the Roundup this week:

  • ⭐️ Top Picks of the Week

  • 🆕 New in Anchorage

Here’s what’s happening around town 👇

⭐ Top Picks of the Week

🏺 Clay Fest 2026 — Turnagain Ceramics (Sat, 11 AM–5 PM)
Turnagain Ceramics celebrates Anchorage’s clay community with its fourth annual Clay Fest. Spend the afternoon browsing handmade wares from local ceramic artists, grabbing a bite to eat, and listening to live bands. You can also get your hands dirty with a class and experience a little of Anchorage’s growing ceramics community for yourself.

🚵 Jump Jam & End of Season Party — Hilltop Ski Area (Sun, 3–6 PM)
Hilltop is wrapping up the biking season with its first-ever Jump Jam. Riders of all skill levels can hit the Skills Area for an afternoon of jumps, progression, and prizes for Best Style and Best Trick, with a DJ playing throughout the event. Registered riders also get free burgers, hot dogs, and drinks, while everyone else is welcome to come watch and cheer them on.

⛰️ Alyeska Climbathon — Alyeska Resort (Sat, 9 AM)
See how much vertical you can conquer during the 10-hour Alyeska Climbathon. Each lap takes participants 2.2 miles up the North Face Trail with 2,000 feet of elevation gain before a tram ride back down to do it all over again. Proceeds support Let Every Woman Know – Alaska and Turnagain Community Health, making every climb count toward a good cause.

🧵 Great Alaska Quilt Show — ConocoPhillips Atrium (Sat–Sun, 10 AM–4 PM)
The Great Alaska Quilt Show returns for a weekend celebrating the work of Alaska’s quilting community. Browse displays of handmade quilts, meet local quilting groups, and check out the different styles and techniques represented throughout the show. There will also be a small quilt auction and tickets available for this year’s raffle quilt.

📣 Be the Change with Kahlil Greene — UAA Wendy Williamson Auditorium (Thu, 7 PM) [Sponsored]
Kahlil Greene, known online as the “Gen Z Historian,” comes to UAA for a conversation about leadership, advocacy, and creating change in the digital age. Greene will share strategies for using social media and online platforms to turn ideas into action, drawing from his work as a digital educator and creator with more than one million followers.
