Weekly Roundup (Mar 10-15)

Hey Anchorage 👋

Last weekend was a perfect snapshot of Anchorage with freshly fallen snow and an absolutely packed downtown. I wouldn't have it any other way. I made it to the Iditarod Ceremonial Start for the fourth time and it’s such a great way to celebrate Alaska’s dog sled heritage. The Running of the Reindeer delivered as always. I popped into AnnMarie’s Art Studio on Friday to see Robert Bundy’s debut and was thoroughly impressed.

This week the city starts preparing for St. Patrick’s Day. Expect Irish themed comedy, community movie nights, snowboard action up at Hilltop, the return of the Spenard Food Truck Carnival, and plenty more. The opening day of the Food Truck Carnival always feels like the unofficial start of “Alaskan spring.”

Here’s what’s happening around town 👇

Top Picks of the Week

🛷 Movie Night: Togo — Fairview Recreation Center (Fri, 6:50PM)
The Fairview Recreation Center hosts a community movie night featuring Togo, the true story of the sled dog teams who carried lifesaving medicine to Nome during the 1925 Serum Run. Bring a pillow or blanket, grab a spot on the floor, and settle in for an Alaska story on the big screen.

🎭 ComedySportz — Williwaw Social (Sat, 7PM)
Two teams of improvisers face off in a fast-paced comedy match where the audience helps decide the winner. This special Irish-themed show brings the laughs with shamrocks, accents, and plenty of crowd participation. Expect quick wit, unexpected moments, and a night of interactive comedy.

🏂 Methodology Snowboard Event — Hilltop Ski Area (Sat)
Hilltop hosts the Methodology Snowboard Event, where riders combine speed and style in a banked slalom competition. After racing the course, competitors can throw their best “method” trick to shave time off their run. Open to all ages and skill levels, with snowboard prizes and a raffle during awards.

🌮 Food Truck Carnival — Spenard Food Truck Carnival (Sat, 11AM)
The Spenard Food Truck Carnival kicks off its 14th season with a lineup of Anchorage food trucks serving everything from savory street food to sweet treats. It’s the opening day of the 2026 season and a great excuse to gather friends, grab lunch, and welcome the start of “Alaskan spring.”
