I’ve worn my Xtratufs more than I’d like to for the middle of July. Thankfully, the rain has been giving us dry afternoons and evenings.

I made it to Rock the Hill last weekend. Two days of Alaska-grown music at Hilltop made for an incredible festival and easily one of my favorite events of the summer. I’m already looking forward to next year.

This week has custom cars, trail runs, parking tickets, soft serve ice cream, and plenty more happening around town.

🌙 Anchorage Summer Night Market — F St. & 6th Ave. (Friday, 5:30 PM)
The Summer Night Market returns to F Street with a rotating mix of local vendors, food trucks, kids’ activities, and an easy Friday night atmosphere downtown. It’s a good excuse to wander, grab dinner, shop small, and see what’s new from week to week.

🏎️ Hot Import Nights — Dena’ina Center (Saturday, 5 PM)
Hot Import Nights returns to Anchorage with a full indoor showcase of modified cars, live music, vendors, fashion, and high-production visuals. The all-ages event runs until 11 PM, and kids 12 and under get in free with a paid adult. It’s a fun one to catch even if you’re not a serious car enthusiast.

🏃 Skinny Raven Trail Series — Kincaid Park Chalet (Thursday, 6 PM)
Skinny Raven’s summer trail series heads to Kincaid Park this week for a casual evening run through the trails. Choose from a 3–4 mile route for runners or a shorter 1–2 mile option for walkers and kids, then stick around for community and Yeti Dogs.

🎭 Improv Double Header — The Nave (Saturday, 6 PM)
Catch two back-to-back improv shows in Spenard. ComedySportz Anchorage kicks things off at 6 PM with an all-ages, audience-driven competition, followed by the more grown-up Scared Scriptless show at 8 PM. Come for one or grab a combo ticket and make a night of it.

🚧 That missing Tudor turn lane? Here's why.
If you've wondered why one of the two left-turn lanes from Tudor Road onto Minnesota Drive has been closed for months, the answer is a failing culvert beneath the road. Repairs are expected to begin in late August, with the lane scheduled to reopen by mid-September.

🅿️ Parking Tickets Could Get More Expensive
Anchorage's $20 parking ticket, unchanged for more than 20 years, could increase to $35 under a proposal from the Anchorage Community Development Authority. The change would still need approval from the Anchorage Assembly before taking effect.

🌸 July Is Peony Harvest Season in Alaska
Alaska peony farms are in the middle of harvest season, with growers cutting thousands of stems for weddings and events across the Lower 48. The flowers bloom later here than in most other places, giving Alaska farms a unique place in the summer peony market.

🍦 Little Miller’s Abbott — New Location
Little Miller’s opened its second Anchorage location last Friday in South Anchorage, bringing the longtime Mat-Su favorite closer to home. The new shop is serving soft serve and coffee, making it an easy stop whether you're starting your morning or ending your day.

Thomas More Classical School is opening this fall in South Anchorage, serving kindergarten through sixth grade. The Christian classical school emphasizes teacher-led instruction, a liberal arts curriculum, and character development, and is currently enrolling students for the 2026–27 school year.
