I made it to the Governor’s Cup hockey game on Friday, and it was one of those rivalry games that absolutely delivered. Tight game, loud crowd, and then Fairbanks scored the winning goal with three seconds left on the clock. Brutal ending, and a game I’ll be talking about for years.
All eyes now turn downtown as Fur Rondy kicks off later this week. Anchorage’s biggest winter celebration is back and ready to take over. Expect the energy to ramp up fast by the end of the week.

🎉 Fur Rondy Festival — Downtown Anchorage (Feb 26–Mar 8)
One of the largest winter festivals in North America takes over downtown with more than 50 events across two packed weeks. 🛷 Open World Sled Dog Races — 4th Ave & D St. (Fri-Sun)
Watch some of the fastest sled dogs on earth race 26-mile heats through the streets and trails of Anchorage. Mushers from Alaska and around the world compete over three days as downtown fills with cheering crowds. Fast, loud, and uniquely Alaska.
🎆 Fireworks Extravaganza — Ship Creek (Sat, 7:30PM)
One of the most anticipated moments of Fur Rondy, the winter sky over Anchorage lights up in a massive fireworks display visible throughout downtown and beyond. Bundle up, find a viewing spot downtown, and catch one of the festival’s biggest traditions.
🎨 Cruisin’ Deep — Discovery Theatre (Thu, 7PM) [sponsored]
Smithsonian paleontologist Kirk Johnson and Alaska artist Ray Troll team up for an evening of science, storytelling, and art exploring Earth’s deep history. A rare chance to see two longtime collaborators bring fossils and fieldwork to life. Reception to follow. Tickets.
